Santa's Dead!

This is something I drew for this year's Orbital Comics advent calendar.  I've also been using this image as my Christmas card, as Christmas snuck up on me a bit this year and I didn't have time to draw anything else.

Comiket Sketches

It wasn't very busy at all at the Comiket in London yesterday but I still spent most of the day hiding behind my table, drawing girls.  Plus Jon Snow from Game of Thrones.  Plus me with no pants on (censored).  The top sketch is a new character called Thea, who will be making her debut in Department of the Peculiar #3.

MCM Comic Con Sketches

It was very busy at the MCM Comic Con in London on Saturday, so mostly I just hid behind my table drawing girls.  And Rick from the Walking Dead.  Plus a couple of zombies.

Dundee Comics Prize 2013

Hey, guess who the runners up in this year's Dundee Comics Prize are: me and my friend Paul Rainey, for our sci-fi strip Connected, which Paul wrote and I drew especially for the competition.  Here's the first page (of 8):

  And here's the mock-up cover I drew:

DEMONCON 6

Tomorrow (September 15th) I will be attending Demoncon 6 at the Royal Star Arcade in Maidstone, along with lots of other guests, including Paul Rainey, Andrew Cheverton and Tim Keable.  This is a good event and organiser Graham Beadle, the owner of my local comic shop, the Grinning Demon in Maidstone, is a really nice bloke who has done a great job of running this twice-yearly event for the last few years, so do come along.  I will be donating the original art from my Demoncon poster (above) to the raffle.  It's A3 sized, black and white, pen and ink on bristol board.  Here's the main poster for the event, which has all the details on it (I think doors open to the public at 11:00am).

Comica Comiket

This coming Saturday - April 20th - I will be attending the Comica Comiket at the Central Saint Martins College of Arts and Design in London.  Although this is the first time I have attended, it's supposed to be a great event, so please come along.  I will be sharing a table with my friend Paul Rainey and will be bringing along copies of Department of the Peculiar issues 1 and 2, Crisp Biscuit Comics 1 and 2, Colin Comix #1, and maybe some of my older comics if I can manage to carry any more with two prolapsed discs.  Yes, I still have a really bad back and am still moaning about it, but I have now got a date for an operation - May 7th - so I should be back to my normal, fun-loving self soon.  Hopefully, I will be recovered in time for the MCM Comic Con in London on the 24th to 26th of May, as I have a table at that event too, but it's looking a bit unlikely at the moment (if I can't handle the whole weekend, I will at least try and do the Saturday).

Demoncon 5

This Sunday I will getting up early and making the arduous 15 minute journey from my house to the Exchange Studio in Maidstone to attend Demoncon 5.  Demoncon is organised by Graham Beadle, the owner of my local comic shop, the Grinning Demon (in Maidstone), who is quite possibly the friendliest comic shop owner I have ever met and has done a great job of single-handedly (?) organising this family-friendly con for the last few years.  I will be bringing along copies of Department of the Peculiar issues 1 and 2, most of my other comics, and copies of Too Much Sex and Violence issues 1, 2 and 3 (#4 is out but I'm afraid I don't have any, so you'll have to ask Rol for a copy).  I am also going to spend the next couple of days drawing superhero (and DOTP) sketches to bring along, and will be sketching all day at the event.  If you have  any requests, let me know.  Oh, and my contribution to the raffle will be the original artwork to the Department of the Peculiar Christmas card I drew last year (see below).  It's A4 sized, pen and ink on Bristol board, and I somehow managed to draw the whole thing without smudging anything.  Also among the 60+ guests attending will be David Frankum (an incredibly good artist) and Andrew Cheverton (writer of West, The Whale House, and more), so you should check them out if you are coming along.

Super Con!

This weekend I will be attending the London Super Comic Convention at the ExCel Centre in London (of course).  I will be situated in 'Artist Alley', in between Paul Rainey and Terry Wiley, so if you are going to be there, please pop along and say hello (unless you don't like me, in which case I'd rather you didn't bother).  I will be bringing along copies of all my comics, including all the remaining copies of Department of the Peculiar #1, and Department of the Peculiar #2, and I will be sketching on demand.

Thunder Brother: Soap Division #4

Issue four of Paul Rainey's excellent comic, Thunder Brother: Soap Division, is out now, and this issue contains six pages of art by me.  The pages in question are the pages of a strip called Body Pop, written by Paul, which was originally published elsewhere last year. However, the original version was in black and white.  I have now coloured it especially for Thunder Brother, as well as tinkering with the lettering here and there, and this new version looks much better.  If you head over to Paul's website, you can check out some Thunder Brother stories for free and then rush over to his online shop to buy some comics.
